This decade will be quite eventful according to UK Sport. The agency revealed it’s planning to offer a slew of sporting events to British sports fans, including the 2030 World Cup and 2025 Women’s Rugby World cup. With that many events, one thing is guaranteed - a lot of excitement for punters on betting sites.
The grand total is just shy of one hundred, with 97 potential events across 44 sports. This includes 46 world championships, like the two mentioned world cups, but also the European Athletics Championship, FIFA World Cup, and Ryder Cup. Currently, deals for 22 events are already set in stone, with eight more in the negotiation phase. One of them could also be the 2036 Summer Olympics, but that’s still in the early stages of discussion.
Called “the greatest decade of extraordinary sporting moments,” this initiative aims to make Britain one of the strongest sporting nations in the world. Among other things, the initiative includes a grand plan for the country to remain within the top five Olympic nations. It will all be executed in three stages or ‘cores’, as UK Sport’s chief executive, Sally Munday, explained.
”The first is to keep winning. The second is to grow a thriving sporting system, and the third is to inspire positive change. It’s very clear that the public wants us to keep the medals coming, and there is no bigger stage than the Olympics and Paralympics. But how we win is as important as what we win,” said Munday.
Diversity will be another vital goal for UK Sport in the upcoming decade. Specifically, the agency will focus on young people from more impoverished environments. UK Sport hopes that, with the help of sports superstars, it can inspire children to take up sports and, potentially, become the UK’s next elite athletes.
Nonetheless, British sports fans have a lot to be excited about. Even if some of these deals don’t come to pass, there’s no doubt that the UK will be the place to be if you’re into sports, either as a fan or an athlete.
